Getting my ass kicked, part I

These power tools kinda rock.

My real estate agent told me that if I want to list my house for over $300K, I have to have my house and garage scraped, painted, and re-roofed.

In my new era of self-reliance (and with the help of my builder brother), I decided to do the home improvements myself.

I felt like a bad ass for about the first 15 minutes.

Today:

          • I scraped the house.
          • I sanded the house.
          • I cut out the caulking.

Tomorrow:

  • I paint the house.

I’m tired.

Awesome! I love to see a woman take projects on and not feel as if you have to be at the mercy of the over priced professionals. What a sweet brother to give you a hand! Hope you get some rest in-between the house chores.

    Where are your safety glasses?
I am loading the Bounder the next few and final warm days here… trying to beat the first snow storm.
I will keep you posted if a date emerges and you can meet me part way to experience so much of what is swirling in that head of yours.
I was wondering about your pics, too and where you are finding them.

Talk about cathartic… There is nothing quite like getting out, getting your hands dirty and doing something yourself. Being the age I am, I have been exposed to the fact that no one, and I mean NO ONE does as good of a job doing something as I do. When I say that, I mean when I pay someone to do something, I expect it to be done as well as or better than I would do it. I rarely find this to be the case. I have been surprised a couple of times, but most of the time, I am not.

Good job taking charge and doing this yourself. When you step back and look at it and you can say, “I did that” it will fill you with confidence.

Then, if you are like me, you will start nitpicking on things you could have done better. Heh.

We’re loading the coach and heading to a local state park for the weekend. Enjoy your weekend.

Dear Angie – Thanks! I got more rest than my poor brother today, but it’s all about progress, not perfection, right?

Dear Joey – Might want to look for your glasses, as I AM wearing safety glasses in that photo…

Dear Wade – Glad to hear you guys are out in your rig again. I look forward to a blog update when you get back!

I stumbled on your blog a little while back – can’t remember how I came across it but I like reading what you write! I think you are great for doing work on your home yourself (with your bro) and showing the world that a woman can do it! I also am intrigued by your desire to fulltime. We want to fulltime within the next year – saving our pennies like crazy to make this dream come true. Keep writing – it’s inspiring.

Im almost done the outside stuff over here, had to do most of it before the snow flies and the cold spell hits. have some fence painting to do, but honestly not sure if that will hinder the sale of the house.
Congrats on doing the job yourself, honestly getting rid of things, fixing up the house, and getting your life in order is quite liberating.

    Keep up the great blogging!

I may get another one going, just not sure what to call it now :(
    Any ideas?

Dear Kari, Thanks so much and good luck on getting started on your own RV plan. I won’t be on the road until next spring, so maybe we will get started at the same time.. (Start a blog! ; )

Dear Karyn, Hmmmm… your next blog name? We’ll have to brainstorm that one. You should definitely do no pics and maybe a more anonymous location so you can stay more incognito from your ex…

I think all three of us are planning for next year?
