I went to an AA meeting

They are really nice.

They laugh a lot.

I’ll write about it tomorrow.

Awesome. Good for you for recognizing your problem and doing something to fix it. I wish you the best. I’m here if you need additional support. :)

I firmly believe because of AA, one of my best friends has saved her life. I am proud of her. And hopeful.

Thanks for turning me on to this comic. It’s bent, but in a good way. Do you know XKCD?

Judging from what I’ve seen here, I think you’ll like it. We all need an outlet. As evil indulgences go, humor beats the hell out of booze.

O, I’ve woken up in a strange place a couple of times because of it. But always in good company.

    A BREATH OF FRESH AIR…
wow, I just stumbled across your blog on the hitchitch site. Uh… sure not what I expected… but I like your writing style, sense of humor and that you don’t hold anything back. Traveling along with you… when it eventually happens (or even if it doesn’t), will be a real trip. Looking forward to your “journey,” and I wish you all the best.

Where do you find these cartoons and pics? They’re HILARIOUS and you’re very clever ;-) To answer your question, yes I had counseling years ago (cognitive, not psychoanalysis as insurance didn’t cover that). But I had a son who went through a LOT of stuff and various resources, with varying results. It can certainly be beneficial but I’ve learned more on my own intellectual and spiritual quests, having been presented with more *ahem* ‘opportunities to grow’ than most folks. People to whom you give all your power can also do great harm as often they’re working through their own ’stuff’. So the bottom line is to never substitute someone else’s judgment for your own (including mine god forbid LOL!). Use your own intellect to consider and analyze. Give yourself credit for your own intelligence and insights. Own your power to live the life YOU want to lead. As Woody Allen said, “You only live once, but if you work it right once is enough!”. (OK, so actually I believe in reincarnation and karma ha ha).

Dear Angie, I took your advice and have been listening to The Power of Now. It is helping me to chill out a bit when I can’t wind down (and can’t drink the vino). Thanks SO much for that.

Dear Barb, Thanks for sharing that with me. I know it is a good program, and the people there are wonderful (and pretty damn funny, too).

Dear Bob, I’ve bookmarked that one – thanks! I love that dark humor…

Dear Mark, I’m glad to have found your blog now, as well. I need to stay connected to the crazy people who opt for this sort of thing. ; )

Dear GypsySoul, I collect things that make me laugh. That comic strip gets pretty bad, but I still think it is funny. I understand what you are saying with regard to using our own intellect, but sometimes I feel like it was my best thinking that got me to some of my worst places! I think realizing that I was out of good ideas was key for me. You’ve seen my brain in action on this blog so that is probably no surprise! Ha ha. Nice to hear from you.

    “I love that dark humor…”

Here’s one especially pertinent to your project:

    …………………..

“sometimes I feel like it was my best thinking that got me to some of my worst places!”

Ain’t it the truth? For instance, there’s this seductive little gem from Ben Franklin:

    “In wine there is wisdom,
    in beer there is freedom,
    in water there is bacteria.”

Our best thoughts are often so plausible, that we immediately stop thinking about them. Oops.

    Dear Bob,

Oh my god that is damn funny. I sometimes listen to Car Talk on NPR, so that really cracks me up.

That cartoon series is going to be a favorite. (Joey was telling me of another funny one on there that she saw after you posted the original link.)

    Thanks!

    Jennifer

p.s. Many of my best thoughts are completely insane.
