I saw this while pulling out of my RV park in Amarillo. Did this guy construct this himself? It said Allegro on the trailer/house part of it. (If you click on the picture a few times, you can see a bigger version.)

Holy crap! I saw a VERY similar one in Moab! I’ll see if I can find the photo I have of it. The guy I saw used an Airstream though. Yes, that is a home made rig. Pretty cool, huh?
Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s homemade… He used a lot of Awesome putting that together.
i too have seen similar rigs – though great for towing on the open road, tractors don’t do so good offroad and are usually light on get up and go horsepower… bet they also require a CDL and that you pull into weigh stations? insurance i suspect would be higher as well?
From what I understand, there are some not-too-complicated transmission and engine management modifications that give those giant turbo-diesel tractors some real acceleration oomph. I’d bet most people willing to go through the trouble of building a custom-made RV out of a tractor would think nothing of swapping some gears and installing a modified ECU.
Wow, a little Google search, and I found that there’s even a forum for people who own/build these at truckconversion.net. Some of them are pretty insane, like this 45-foot, two bedroom, dual-slider conversion with matching two-car garage trailer.

That must be almost 90 feet long from front of tractor to back of trailer!
